When his force powers manifested at seven he was promptly found, picked up from Orriorr, and sent to Coruscant for training. At thirteen he managed to earn his lightsaber and a master on Tython showed interest in him. However, while his grasp of the force was strong, his temperament was difficult. He had a dry, often dark, sense of humor which didn't mix well with his natural wookiee temper. Even his wookiee jedi masters were too uncomfortable to train him.

He was shuffled between masters until he was given to Depa Billaba. He'd felt that it was a lucky break at first as her master had been Mace Windu, but things went sour quickly when he followed her on assignment to Haruun Kal.

The signs of his master's fall to the darkside were obvious to Sno, but when he presented his suspicious to the council her word was taken over his. His master sent him to the other side of the civil war ravaging the jungle planet to infiltrate and spy. He did this for some time, growing fond of a particular wookiee there and learning how to train akk dogs. However, when his master started committing war crimes he abandoned the mission, disappeared into the woods with the akk dog he'd force bonded with, and lived there alone until Mace Windu found the hiding padawan many years later. Windu offered to continue his training, but he wanted to take some time to consider if being a jedi was really suited to him, as he'd found himself more content alone in the jungle than he ever had living at the temples. However, Order 66 happened before he had a chance to come to a decision on the matter. Finding himself having to hide his jedi talents, he joined a Jizz band (Snoots, Toots, and the Hot Tauntones) where he played the slitherhorn. He wasn't happy with the life, but he became good friends with the Ortolan band leader Badou (who also adored Dewkatha and adopted him as band mascot so that Sno could travel with the akk dog mostly unimpeded), and the lifestyle had its elements of fun and adventure. Right up until he was confused for an escaped slave wookiee and was arrested for ripping the arm off a stormtrooper.
